As Colgate celebrates its Bicentennial during the 2018–2019 academic year, the university is exploring its history, celebrating its success, and planning for its bright future. When Through Thy Valley: Colgate in 200 Images celebrates the beauty and history of Colgate’s campus over 200 years through 200 photographs, both archival and contemporary. From the majestic hill and sweeping Chenango Valley vistas, to the campus with its “history written in stone” and picturesque landscape of paths, plantings, and lake, to the Village of Hamilton and the Baptist church whose members founded the institution that would become Colgate, this book provides a visual visit to a beloved campus.
The book features images taken by generations of university photographers, students, alumni, and members of the Hamilton, N.Y., community. The introduction was penned by Colgate’s 17th president, Brian W. Casey, who wrote his Harvard University PhD dissertation on “Nostalgia and the Campus: Emotion and American Higher Education, 1880–1940.” All profits will be directed to the university’s financial aid resources, providing access for undergraduate students.
