I was a math co-major, but the course after differential equations was one so abstract we rarely saw numbers. I went to the professor (whose name I don’t recall) explained that I missed seeing numbers. He suggested I take statistics to finish out my major.

Although it took two more statistics courses until I finally “got it,” statistics helped me in my MBA, in my PhD, and in business. I later taught statistics at Rutgers. Now I think simplified statistics should be taught in high schools, maybe as an elective.
